In early December  as I reflected on 2021, I was  praying and seeking the Lord for clarity and His guidance for SGM as we entered 2022. The thought that kept coming to my mind was that of planting seeds, staying encouraged to do the work and trusting God for what only He can do, and that led me to  1 Corinthians chapter 3.  In I Corinthians, Paul was writing to the church in Corinth and addressing a variety of problems and struggles in the church that were of concern and counsel was needed. Paul proclaims the relevance of Jesus Christ to every aspect of our lives as believers inclusive of  wisdom, righteousness, and redemption. Hence, in chapter 3 verses 6-9  one group was saying they followed Paul, the other saying they followed Apollos.  He addresses this growing division: “6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”

This is quite reminiscent of where the church seems to be today! Yet it is up to the church to reflect unity, justice, and the love of Christ in the world.  As followers of Jesus Christ, we can do the work we are called to and know that we are not doing it alone. There is both strength in effort and joy in all of us working together, and witnessing the fruit that comes from God who makes all things grow. We know at Sunshine, we could not do this work alone- we need everyone joining together and doing the part God has asked of them!

As we look to the work ahead of us at Sunshine Gospel Ministries, we pray that you will continue to join us in 2022 as we plant, water and trust God for the increase. There are many exciting opportunities for growth on the horizon; our Youth Outreach programs are increasing their capacity by 20%, our Familyhood program continues to add more cohorts of parent support groups and classes, our Flourishing Community Initiative is increasing its reach to more families affected by gun violence, our BridgeBuilders program is offering in person service learning trips and new immersive experiences, and our newly piloted Housing Equity Initiative is growing as we seek to increase home retention and ownership for residents in our community.

As we continue to plant seeds and water them together , we have faith that God will bless and increase these efforts!  We look forward to continuing with you all in prayer, action, and spreading the news of all God is doing in 2022!

In Christ,
