Introducing Sunshine's New Executive DIrector.

8.26.20

Sunshine is pleased to announce that effective September 15, 2020, Kimberly Salley, Sunshine’s current Director of Youth Outreach, will become the new Executive Director. The current Executive Director, Joel Hamernick, will move to the position of President where he will focus on strategic vision, development, and fundraising. Both positions will report directly to Sunshine’s Board of Directors. Kimberly brings to Sunshine years of developing, implementing, and running programs for youth and families to help improve the landscaping in communities related to academic remediation, advocacy, mentoring, social enterprise, civic engagement, and cultural enrichment. She is a servant-leader and fosters creating, building, and maintaining teams and collaborative efforts internally, externally, and cross culturally. Kimberly believes strongly in equipping, training, and walking alongside staff as it relates to vocational and professional development and spiritual formation. Kimberly values and considers it a necessary catalyst to engage with community members and leaders to discuss ways to elicit change and sustainability that can eradicate challenges and invoke unity that empowers the implementation of strategies, goals, and plans that will hopefully yield viable and equitable solutions in the Woodlawn community. “It is both my joy and privilege to seek solutions to injustices in under-resourced and underserved communities where there are systemic nuances that actually exclude, demean and divide,” said Kimberly. Kimberly was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Howard University and an MBA with concentrations in Public/Non-Profit Management, Management & Organization, Entrepreneurship & Innovation from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Kimberly has served in ministry and philanthropy for over 25 years, serving on community and other nonprofit boards and holding leadership positions in various organizations.

“I am delighted to work side-by-side in the leadership of Sunshine Gospel Ministries, alongside Kim, as we seek to grow and expand the work in Woodlawn. Our efforts to love and support our neighbors, reflect mercy and justice and proclaim the gospel, are as needed as ever, and Kim’s leadership will play a critical part,” said joel Hamernick.

“We are pleased to have Kim at the helm. Kim’s commitment, compassion, and leadership skills, combined with Joel’s vision for the organization, make the two of them a great team to navigate these turbulent and uncertain times in our community,” said Board President Richard Wilson.
