It's not your regular mission trip. Come see how God is at work in the city.
Listen. Learn. Serve.
Spend a week with us on the south side of Chicago and engage the Gospel issues of race, class and poverty through daily Bible lessons and discussions, work projects and venturing out into the city to get the pulse of what is going on where the people are.
Bible Lessons: Sunshine staff and partnering pastor’s and community leaders meet with Bridge Builder students daily to see what God has to say about the city, the call to racial reconciliation, radical giving and humbly receiving in regards to the poor, and how His love is reconciling ALL things.
Work Projects: After we learn what the Lord would have us to do as His people, we act and give of our time and energy a few hours a day. Participants pick one work project and commit to it for the week, building relationships at the work site as the week progresses. Work project options vary by season and week but include: in class aides in Chicago Public Schools, light construction/demolition crews, painting, large scale art projects/beautification projects, community gardens, camp counselors at neighborhood day camps and vacation bible schools, running a sports camp, administrative assistant in schools or church offices, assist elderly residents with home projects, canvassing, neighborhood mapping.
Go Out into the City: Sunshine is one model of how to answer God’s call to the city and the people here. We want you to see Him at work in many ways, and in all kinds of people. We go out and meet people on the street, on public transportation and in other ministries (homeless outreaches, youth outreaches, feeding ministries, church plants,etc) across Chicago.
