Craig Kaplowitz
Craig Kaplowitz is a Professor of History and Director of the Honors Program at Judson University in Elgin, IL. He holds a Ph.D. in American History from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. in history and economics from Wake Forest University. A specialist in the history of U.S. domestic policy since World War II, Craig teaches, speaks, and writes on civil rights, immigration, race/ethnicity, and urban/suburban history.
Craig first encountered Sunshine when he led a group from his church on a Bridge Builders trip in the summer of 2006. Impressed by the work of Sunshine in the community, he also notes two additional (and unique, in his experience) elements: the clear, consistent philosophy of ministry that drives the range of Sunshine’s activities, and the deep teaching component of the one-week Bridge Builders program. Following this impressive introduction, Craig sought opportunities to stay involved with Sunshine, culminating in his joining the board in the fall of 2009.
Craig has served as a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), and as a school board officer. He and his wife and children are members of Grace Presbyterian Church. He is equally pleased by the long hike up a mountain or through one of Chicago’s many neighborhoods.
