Buildings & Facilities

Our buildings at 500 & 501 E 61st are located in Woodlawn between Cottage Grove Street and Martin Luther King, Jr Drive. At these facilities, we run a wide range of activities, including:

  • Serving over 200 youth annually, between 1st to 12th grades.
  • Providing summer jobs training and college readiness to young adults.
  • Hosting over 400 participants annually through our BridgeBuilders program.
  • Serving the community quality coffee and baked goods at our local coffee shop, Greenline Coffee.

In addition, we offer several affordable housing units within the neighborhood (learn more in our housing section).

Further, through our relationship with Sunshine Enterprises, we host workshops and entrepreneurship classes, along with providing a co-working space that offers monthly memberships, office space, and other services for local businesses.

Future youth and family center:

Our vision is to continue expanding this work in order to bring about holistic community renewal for Woodlawn. This calls for strategic collaboration with public and private partners in order to help reduce violence, create jobs, grow businesses, and promote safety. In our work with children and families, as well as our engagement with residents and neighborhood stakeholders, we’re planning for development of 61st street to become a revitalized corridor with verdant spaces, vibrant commerce, and burgeoning opportunity. We call this initiative Vision61. To learn more, please contact us.

A large parcel of property on 61st Street has been set aside by the City of Chicago for SGM to construct a new center housing a gymnasium, fitness center, classrooms, offices and more.

Future site for Sunshine Enterprises:

Located 2 blocks west of our current properties, this currently vacant property is a large historic Art Deco style Terra Cotta building. The property will be the new center of operations for Sunshine Enterprises, our work with neighborhood entrepreneurs, and our work to revitalize the 61st street commercial corridor.
